Service dogs trained at the Roanoke, VA training center are placed throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. In contrast to leader dogs for the blind, service dogs are specially trained to help people with severe ambulatory and other physical disabilities. They may be trained to perform over 100 different tasks such as opening and closing doors, retrieving dropped objects, pulling wheelchairs, turning lights on or off, and obtaining food from the refrigerator.

This shows an appropriate way to handle it if you sit down and the person next to you on the bus tells you they are afraid of dogs. There was another empty seat, so I just moved. Also starring in the video are Ollie (Standard Poodle), Iris (German Shepherd), and Oliver (Italian Greyhound). Note that the videographer (my husband) stood between Iris and the afraid woman the whole time so that there was a physical barrier.

Clicker Training Service Dogs in Indiana Prison

On May 11th during a presentation to ICAN supporters, the men at Plainfield Correctional Facility who train for ICAN (www.icandog.org) demonstrated that even with less than a year of canine training, all of them are capable dog trainers and several have skills that make them some of the best trainers in the Indianapolis area. As they ran their dogs in training through their behaviors and skills for the audience, it was obvious just how much time, effort and heart the men had put into helping the dogs reach their potential.
