1) In some circumstances and through certain pet insurance providers, purchasing pet insurance for you elder dog can be an excellent idea.

2) If you have a strong relationship with your elder dog’s veterinarian, consider asking him/her which pet insurance policies might be best for you in your particular situation.

3) Be aware that only a few pet insurance providers cover cancer in older dogs, yet cancer is the biggest single killer among canines of a certain age.

4) In connection with considering a new pet insurance policy for your older dog, it is wise to think in advance about end-of-life issues.  For example, if your dog’s breed has a life expectancy of 14 years, your dog turns 14 and then is diagnosed with advanced cancer, would it be better to ease him/her into the next life, or to keep him here suffering at great expense?

5) Online research of different pet insurance providers will help you to learn which companies offer policies for your breed of senior dog.  Try to find online customer comments about the pet insurance companies that have *not* been made on the pet insurance companies’ own websites.
