Dogasaur-Adopting Service Dogs is a Humane Thing to Do

1) There are several categories of service dogs including hearing and signal dogs, dogs for the blind, and assistance dogs that might for example pull wheelchairs.
2) A service dog must be rigorously trained from puppyhood in order to provide consistently strong assistance to a disabled person.
3) Only about 30 - 40% of all puppies that enter service dog training programs actually are able to function as service dogs.
4) The other 60% are perfectly lovely dogs in need of homes. They might suffer a dire fate if no good home is found for them, though fortunately the puppy raisers often welcome them back into their homes.
5) In addition to puppies that don’t make it as guide dogs, retired guide dogs sometimes need loving homes to take care of them.
6) There are many organizations that will gladly help you to learn more about service dog adoption. They include but are not limited to Canine Companions for Independence, NEADS, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Guide Dogs of America and The Seeing Eye.
