Gift Ideas For The Holidays

With the holidays just around the corner, Dogasaur would like to help our members create a wonderful experience for our canine family members.

When it comes to gift giving and considering the happiness of dogs, there is a distinction to be made– We can give presents that will make dogs happy, and we can also give presents that will make owners happy.

What to give dogs

To get that tail (or tails) wagging, here are some suggestions:

-a sandbox for digging and doggy scavenger hunts
-a gift basket full of toys and/or treats
-a newly rescued canine friend
-a snuggly blanket (preferably fleece)
-a new sweater or raincoat for the cold weather

What to give dog lovers

For those hard-to-shop-for folks on your list, think about whether or not they have a dog. Here are some ideas for gifts that may not be all that much fun for dogs, but that will make your dog lover friend(s) quite happy:

-a homemade gift basket of dog bath supplies: http://www.ehow.com/how_4500481_make-pet-pampering-gift-basket.html
-a coffee table book about dogs
-grooming tools
-dog apparel and accessories
-a canine booster seat

Creating a Doggie Holiday Gift Basket

With gifts, its what’s inside that counts. However, a little festive wrapping is worth the effort for taking memorable photos and videos.

A gift basket is a good way to go when giving several small items. You can use tissue paper for the bottom or even small towels/blankets. Clear cellophane works well for containing the items and displaying what’s inside. Since we are talking about dog gift items, find cards or print out pictures of dogs that you can use to decorate the outside. Big and bold images work best. And for the final touch, add a cheery, colorful ribbon.

Stay safe and make sure there are no hazards involved with any part of the present. Supervise the actual gift opening and catch your dog’s joyful surprise on camera!

Cold Weather

If it gets really cold where you live, your dog will probably appreciate a nice sweater, especially if they have short hair. You can buy one at almost any upscale pet boutique. However, if you are either on a budget or handy with a needle and thread, you can also knit one yourself. Here are a few links for how to do this:
