Barkzilla Shares a High Dose of Cuteness
by Christine Yee on July 16, 2009
Barkzilla is one of those dog blogs that is hard to stop browsing through! They are never short of adorable but useful products and posts.
In addition to the collapsible bowl featured above, we really like the Bow Ow First Aid Kit, and the Busy Buddy toy
We also loved learning about the Pet Postcard Project to help homeless animals.
Samantha from Barkzilla was kind enough to tell us more about her blog, her own dog, Paddington and her perspective on community and improving the lives of dogs.
The products listed on your blog are adorable. Which are your top three personal favorites?
Wow- it’s kind of difficult to pick just three favorites! We loved checking out Puppy Cake’s ready-to-bake treat mixes because it combined two of the things we love most: dogs and cooking! Olive Dog’s Fur Spritzer is also an amazing product. It left Paddy and our apartment smelling great. Paddy also couldn’t get enough of Grand Dog Bakery’s 100% natural treats . They looked so tasty we were almost tempted to try them ourselves…
Where did you get Paddy?
Paddington came to us from a breeder in the mid-west. In fact, she flew on her own all the way from Green Bay to New York City!
Describe Paddy’s personality
Paddy is a lovely combination of the best breed qualities of Yorkshire Terriers and Maltese. While she is the pickiest eater ever (having grown up with Labradors, this was a fascinating discovery), Paddy is pretty adventurous when it comes to everything else! Though she likes to pretend she’s a big, loud Golden Retriever, at the end of a long day she’s ready for a cuddle. She loves people, but has a strong dislike of horses (perhaps a bad childhood memory on from the farm where she was born?) and can’t stand to see them or Chester Cheetos (from the Cheetos commercials) on TV.
Which Barkzilla items do you think she likes the most?
Tennis balls are hands down Paddy’s favorite thing in the world, but when it comes to her favorite product we’ve featured on Barkzilla, it has to be Luther, the stuffing-free toy.
What does a community of dog lovers mean to you?
One of the best things about the internet is its power to connect people. A community of pet lovers like Dogasaur, allows people with shared interests to converse about a subject that they’re passionate about. It’s also a great resource for sharing tips, advice, and stories that other dog owners may find helpful.
What is your take on how dog lovers can work to improve the lives of their own dogs as well as dogs in need?
We often neglect to recognize the positive impact that our dogs have in our lives. While many of our dogs live pretty luxuriously, the most important thing in your dog’s eyes isn’t having a fancy collar or bed- it’s spending time with you.
It can be easy to forget that not all dogs have been lucky enough to find a loving home yet. Helping dogs in need can be as simple (and free) as visiting The Animal Rescue site each day to donate food to shelter dogs. Getting involved with local pet communities or clubs is also a great way to learn about ways you can help less-fortunate animals in your own neighborhood (and meet other animal lovers!). Once you start looking, you’ll be surprised at how many ways there are to help!
We agree. Small actions from a lot of people can make a huge difference. We want to thank Samantha for taking the time to have this conversation with us. Also we hope Paddy had a wonderful birthday! If you love finding Waldo, see if you can spot Paddy on Barkzilla’s adorable Twitter background.
(She does look like a Paddington bear, don’t you think?)
